Nhà bếp (tủ bếp, kệ bếp) là nơi nấu nướng cho cả nhà, bảo đảm sức khỏe và tạo ra không khí sum họp gia đình trong bữa ăn vui vẻ, bởi vậy đây là không gian rất quan trọng mà ông bà ta từ xưa đã rất chú ý tới.

Trong thuật phong thuỷ cũng có nhiều điều rất đáng lưu ý về việc bố trí cho khoảng không gian này.

Trước hết, nhà bếp phải phải được tránh gió – theo phong thuỷ gọi là “tàng phong tụ khí”, nghĩa là nên tránh gió để được tụ khí. Nhà bếp mà nhìn thẳng ra cửa chính hoặc phía sau bếp có cửa sổ là không tốt. Bếp không nên đặt lộ liễu và rất kỵ đặt ngay cửa chính. Đặt tựa vào tường chứ không nên đặt ngay trước cửa sổ.

Bởi vì những luồng khí từ ngoài sẽ lùa thẳng vào bếp làm mất mát ngọn lửa – một thứ quý giá trong cuộc sống con người. Điều này cũng có cơ sở khoa học, hợp lý bởi nếu bếp đặt ở nơi có nhiều gió sẽ làm cho lửa bếp không ổn định, khó cháy hoặc thậm chí nguy hiểm do hoả hoạn.

Thuật phong thuỷ còn khuyên không nên đặt bếp đối diện với nhà vệ sinh, đó là điều tối kỵ về mặt an toàn thực phẩm. Nhà bếp cũng không nên đặt đối diện với cửa phòng ngủ, dù là cách một bức tường. Vì bếp là nơi nóng bức, khói lửa, nếu để quá gần nơi nghỉ ngơi của con người sẽ ảnh hưởng đến sức khoẻ, quá trình hô hấp.

Ngoài ra, trong bố trí bếp, người ta còn kiêng đặt bếp ngược hướng nhà (nghĩa là bếp đưa lưng về hướng cửa), đặt bếp trên rãnh mương, trên đường nước hay bể nước vì lửa và nước thường xung khắc, không hoà thuận. Cũng cần lưu ý, không nên đặt bếp nơi có xà ngang đè bên trên và không để góc nhọn chĩa thẳng vào bếp…
